Certainly the most intense moment of my life was standing in a line holding hands with so many people that I could not have counted them all. In this line I felt a shiver, a feeling so enriching ... one that told me this was right ... it stretched for blocks and miles, through towns, over state lines from New York to Los Angeles. Millions of people joined hands in the only event of its kind, Hands Across America. While the event lasted for only a few minutes, its impression of good will and deep caring has left a lifelong impression on me.
